LeBron James might consider potential Cavs return in 2023

It's been speculated that LeBron James could be returning to the Cleveland Cavaliers for the 2023 season. Moreover, it's also possible that the team will try and make room for him by making other moves.

On Monday's "First Things First," Chris Broussard discussed the rumors surrounding James' possible return to the team. Broussard said that it's not a good idea for the organization to make a change.

Although he's a huge Cleveland fan, Broussard said he wouldn't be against James returning to the city. However, the Fox Sports commentator noted that the team won't be the same following his second return. He also said that the organization's young players will be unable to carry the same level of success.

LeBron brings less intensity to Cleveland

As a Cleveland fan, Broussard said the city lost its innocence regarding James. He stated that the atmosphere in the arena was "business." The negativity that lingered after James' first return was eventually replaced by the belief that the organization would be a dynasty. If King James returns to the city a third time, it will only lead to less intensity.

"And I think erroneously, some fans in Cleveland will also be like, 'We kinda wanna see these young kids develop. We don't want it to become all LeBron all the time, all about him anymore.' I think some people will feel that way. I disagree. … It's about winning championships, so I would want LeBron back," said Broussard.

The 53-year-old commentator believes that James should stay in Los Angeles instead of going back to Cleveland because of the amount of cap room that the Lakers have available after next season. He concluded that the team could add more players after that. Even though James can wait and see what the organization can do with its cap space, he should stay in LA to see what they can do with it.

The first overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft, James spent 11 seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He led the team to the playoffs in nine of his 11 seasons with the organization. During his second stint with the team, he also participated in five NBA Finals appearances.

Before the 37-year-old James joined the Cavs in 2003, the organization hadn't made it to a playoff appearance since the 1990s. They haven't seen a postseason appearance since James left in 2010 and returned in 2014.

James' relationship with Lakers 'little more fractured,' says Wildes

On the other hand, Broussard's co-host Kevin Wildes is a massive fan of the Cavs-Lakers reunion. He talked about how these rumors could be a good indication of how James feels about the team.

Although Wildes believes that his most outstanding achievement of James was his time with the Cavaliers, he also thinks that the relationship between him and the organization is more fractured than previously. The co-host stated that going back to the city would be a "fairytale" for him, but the other part of it is "dark."

In 2018, James joined the LA Lakers, leading them to a championship in 2020. However, since then, the team has mostly been on the decline. In the 2020-21 season, they finished 11th in the West and missed the playoffs completely. During the 2021-22 season, James could average 30.3 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game.
